GIFT AND MEMORIAL POLICY
GIFTS
The Library shall encourage and accept gifts of materials, monetary donations, and other items suitable for the Library.
Gifts of materials and other objects are subject to the same criteria required of purchased materials and objects. Gifts that do not meet those criteria shall be accepted with the understanding that they shall be sold, exchanged, or given to other organizations or to the public. Whenever a gift is no longer of use to the Library, it shall be disposed of in the same manner as items purchased for the library. An acknowledgment of receipt of the gift shall be given to the donor as requested. However, no monetary value shall be placed on the gift by the Library.
Monetary gifts shall be used as designated by the donor when its designated use is within the goals and objectives of the Library. When the donor does not designate a specific use of a gift, the manner of its use shall be left to the Library's discretion. A receipt that indicates the amount of the monetary donation shall be given to the donor as requested.
MEMORIALS AND OTHER REMEMBRANCES
The above guidelines shall be applied to all gifts made to the library as a memorial or other remembrance. All acceptable gifts made as a memorial or remembrance shall be appropriately marked.
An acknowledgment stating the name of the donor and the nature of the gift shall be sent by the Library to the appropriate person or organization.
All names of donors and/or persons for whom memorials and remembrances have been made shall be recorded in a book that shall be placed in the foyer of the Library. If requested, a bookplate which indicates the name in which the memorial or remembrance was made and/or the name of the donor shall be placed in gift materials and materials purchased with monetary donations. The names of donors of $1000.00 up to $10,000.00 shall be placed on a wooden plaque in the Library. The names of donors of $10,000.00 or more shall be placed on individual bronze plaques and displayed in the Library.
Anonymity for all donations shall be respected as requested by the donor.
