BOOKMOBILE SERVICES POLICY

Bookmobile services shall be provided for residents of Colleton County who are without reasonable access to the main library. Bookmobile services shall be limited to the geographical boundaries of Colleton County, including Edisto Beach. There are no scheduled stops within the city limits of Walterboro, although there are scheduled stops in its adjacent subdivisions.

The philosophy and principles of Bookmobile services shall be consistent with those of the main library. Bookmobile schedules shall be as full as possible to make them the most cost efficient as well as offering the best service possible. Bookmobile stops for direct service shall be scheduled at regular intervals. Criteria for establishing Bookmobile stops shall include availability of time to provide service; number of miles traveled to reach a stop; number of residents who would utilize the service, accessibility to the area; and existing services offered in the area. Criteria for discontinuing service at a stop shall include declining use and justification of the number of miles traveled to reach the stop. Scheduled stops shall be canceled only if there are mechanical problems or bad weather.

Bookmobile policies shall be consistent with those of the main library with the following exceptions: Materials shall be checked out for a period of four weeks with one renewal. In case of cancellation of a scheduled stop by the library, materials shall not be subject to fines until the next scheduled stop.
