Q. Can I ask a reference question over the phone or via e-mail?
A. We do offer reference help over the phone and e-mail. Call us at

If the person requesting the information is from outside of Colleton County,
we do charge for this service. The cost is $2 per search and can be emailed
with no additional charge or a hard copy can be mailed for $.70 per search.
There is a limit of five(5) requests per patron at any one time. The payment
must be received in advance.
Q. Is there anyway to get full text articles, even if the library
does not own the magazine, journal, or newspaper in which it appears?
A. Yes, we have access to several databases sponsored by DISCUS,
many of which offer full text articles. Check out the database listing on
our "Databases" page to the left to see what is available.
The "Web Junior" database has databases more appropriate
for children. If the article that you want is not available from one of
these, we can request it through Interlibrary Loan. These databases can also
be accessed from your home or office computer if you have a valid library
card & have signed up for a PIN number at our circulation desk in the
library.
Q. Is there any reference help for genealogy information?
A. The Reference staff can offer limited help with genealogical queries. In
house, we offer free access to Ancestry.com Library Edition and to Heritage
Quest. Heritage Quest can be accessed from outside the library with your
library card and PIN number. We suggest that you also contact the Old St.
Bartholomew’s Genealogical Society at: They can offer more extensive
assistance. Web address is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~scosbc/
